8-5-03: From the z review a UK site:
"Director William Tyler Smith has signed up Jake Weber to star in
Summerhill. The script was written by Smith with Julian David Hoxter.
Filming will take place this Autumn in Suffolk. The movie will revolved
around Summerhill, a British alternative school that students and faculty
run together as a community of equals. The students are free to go to class
-- or not -- and a spirit of free thought, personal responsibility and
democratic ideals prevails. In 1999, the British government threatened to
shut the school down, and the students and faculty banded together to fight
its closing. They ultimately won their battle against the authorities in a
dramatic court case. The score for the movie is being provided by Ray
Manzarek."
And from the indiewire:
"Director William Tyler Smith ("The Third Mind") is set to go into production in September on "Summerhill," from the script he co-wrote with Julian David Hoxter. The film will be based on the real-life stories from Summerhill, the alternative school in Suffolk, England. Jake Weber ("U-571," "Meet Joe Black"), a Summerhill alumnus, is set to star, with former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek providing the score. Morris S. Levy of New York-based MEGA Films is executive producing, in association with Social Art Productions. The flick starts shooting in the fall in Suffolk and also in Carmel, California."
